Light Field Cameras: New Generation of Cameras promising Photography Revolution

Now commercially accessible light field cameras are emerging as a promising innovation, reinventing the photography arena.  

FERMONT, CA: After being taken from the camera by introducing fresh viewpoints or changing focus, light field photography has launched a new route for consumers to have enhanced pictures and videos. The Light field camera is the new variety of cameras, which has emerged with the advent of the microlens in the standard camera. The cameras in the light field have launched the notion of digital object refocusing and retrieval.

The light-field camera shoots images that can be concentrated on the camera itself or online long after they have been captured. This technology promises no more blurry topics, and no shutter lag waiting for the camera's lens to concentrate. Soon, a software update to the camera will even allow 3-D images to be produced.
It does this by shifting from optics to computing photography. Light field cameras are equipped between the primary lens and the sensor with thousands of microlenses. The light field camera recorded information maintains the direction of each light ray. This fundamental change in the recording of a picture allows the user to shoot first and then concentrate later.

The capacity to alter focus after the image is taken significant advantage of this camera. However, owing to this camera being relatively new to the market, there are a reasonable number of disadvantages. Firstly, the resolution of the final picture is impaired for the camera to collect so much information about the incoming light. It all has to have comparable lighting in the picture. Also, If one subject is in bright, direct sunlight and another subject is in the shade, then the various sun exposures may make it difficult for the editing software to change the focus between these two subjects.

At this stage, the light field cameras appear to be more of a novelty than an artistic tool, but this invention could alter the future with enhanced software development and the camera itself. This characteristic might become very helpful in the future or be used artistically, just as the 360-degree camera is now being used.
