Starfish has developed technology for splicing and processing transport streams, advertising insertion, regional program replacement, media transcoding, opt-out signal decoding, and audio description/video description, among other things.
Fremont, CA: For years, online piracy has been on the rise worldwide. Despite the rising availability of legal streaming options, online piracy continues to be a major threat for numerous businesses, including information technology, software, telecommunications, audio recording, film and television show production, and sports and entertainment.
Traffic to pirated websites soared by 40% during the outbreak. As a result, revenues from the shadow economy are also on the rise. To mitigate the risk the Starfish came up with a unique solution where it will insert watermark sequences directly into encoded media streams.
Starfish Technologies, a pioneer in transport streaming processing, has expanded its market-leading line of broadcast and streaming technologies. The new feature will debut at NAB 2022 (24 " 27 April, Las Vegas Convention Center, booth N2031), where it will insert watermark sequences directly into encoded media streams.
When sharing important media over streaming feeds, it's common to need to preserve the content. The TS Watermark Inserter is a self-contained application that works on COTS hardware. The device receives an incoming transport stream (SPTS or MPTS), decodes it, overlays the watermark, and then re-encodes it to the same format and bit rate.
The user can easily adjust the watermark sequence because it is saved within the application. According to Peter Blatchford, CEO of Starfish, “This is one of those requirements that many organizations have for broadcast, IPTV and OTT.” It would be best if you had anti-piracy protection but didn't want to invest in a complex multi-vendor solution. This fully integrated software application accomplishes the task in a timely and cost-effective manner.
TS Watermark Inserter is part of Starfish's extended range of transport stream processing technologies, and it runs on an enterprise-grade server with numerous channels, each inserting unique watermarks. “We have been continuing to work closely with our users over the past couple of years to develop and enhance our product range in line with their transport stream requirements,” Blatchford noted. “As a result, we are anticipating the opportunity to meet again in person at NAB 2022.”
