Technology is supposed to have the most significant impact on the advancement of the film business, and the digital medium is likely to move at a faster rate of innovation than ever before.
FREMONT, CA: Cinema is one of the territories that technology has conquered. The cinema industry hasn't looked back in the last 120 years since the changes have been so drastic. Lumiere and Auguste, two French brothers, were the first to create a series of short 50-second films in 1895. Their invention has only served to propel the industry ahead. Furthermore, the art of storytelling progressed not only in terms of production but also in terms of audience enjoyment. Let us quickly review what went well in the recent film industry transformation.
Cinematography
With the introduction of new instruments and technologies, cinematography has developed. Only after the year 2000 did the digital sphere take off. However, in 2010, digital overtook film as the preferred medium, allowing cinematographers to maintain greater control over the camera. Furthermore, the constantly changing viewpoints make any scene a joy to watch. Bulky cameras have said their final goodbyes as portable cameras have taken their place. Smartphone filmmaking equipment allows an entire feature film to be shot on an iPhone.
Sound in the movie industry
Silent films (Charlie Chaplin, Rudolf Valentino, and others) reigned supreme for the longest time. Various movie production companies got famous for using titles between shots and humor. In 1927, The Jazz Singer was the first film to mix musical scores with speech. As a result, the movie business shifted to more advanced systems such as Movietone, Mono, Dolby, and, most recently, Dolby Atmos.
Animation
You can't ignore Disney's undeniable influence on our lives. Disney's innovations have paved the way for the animation filmmaking industry with that in mind. It all started with Steamboat Willie in 1927, and it was then that our beloved Mickey Mouse was introduced, much to our delight. In addition, the introduction of a multiplane camera used in Snow White changed the depth of the scenes and added realism.
Computer generated imagery (CGI)
Previously, the films lacked CGI. In 1973, the film industry used CGI to release the sci-fi film Westworld for the first time. It was the first time the world saw 2D technology. Disney and Pixar continued experimenting with CGI techniques to make the audience's experience more enjoyable. Faceshift, a revolutionary technology recently acquired by Apple, has recently gained a foothold in the industry.
Video streaming with Netflix
Consumers were initially drawn to Netflix because of the convenience of bundling subscriptions, but the company is now aggressively producing unique content. The production studios have banded together to create audience-specific material with the pandemic hit. Finite online series and several sequels have received a significant thumbs up from the changing dynamics of movie creation.
